The challenge
Alongside civilian airspace surveillance, GIADS (German Improved Air Defence System) provides airspace surveillance for the military domain, supporting the conduct of air operations among other things. GIADS draws on data from radar stations to generate a three-dimensional picture of the airspace and the flight movements over Germany. To build this three-dimensional picture, the data from different stations has to be brought together, and the demands on reliability and fail-safe operation are high.
