NewTec, a specialist in safety-critical electronic systems, will present its comprehensive services and solutions for cyber-resilient rail systems at InnoTrans, taking place from September 22 to 25. With its NTTrainSolutions, the company supports manufacturers in establishing cybersecurity as an integral part of product development for vehicles, infrastructure, and control and signaling technology.
The digitalization and increasing connectivity of modern rail systems open up new opportunities, for example in terms of performance and maintainability. At the same time, networked vehicles, control and signaling technology, and infrastructure must also be protected against cyberattacks to ensure reliable operation.
Anyone supplying vehicles, control and signaling technology, interlockings, train control systems, traction power, or telecommunications systems is considered a critical supplier and must comply with the requirements of NIS-2 (in Germany: the NIS-2 Implementation Act / the new BSIG). Large vehicle manufacturers may also themselves be classified as critical infrastructure (KRITIS) operators. In addition to NIS-2, manufacturers and suppliers must also implement further regulatory and normative requirements during development, operation, and maintenance – for example, those of the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), TS 50701, or IEC 61375-1:2026.
Key requirements include security by design as well as measures such as regular security updates and patch processes throughout the entire lifecycle, secure authentication and access control, encryption of communication (e.g., between the vehicle and the control center), and protection against unauthorized access to maintenance interfaces. NewTec offers a powerful Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) for this purpose, enabling manufacturers to meet the regulatory and normative security requirements.
At this year's InnoTrans, NewTec will also provide information on its Product Security Incident Response Service (PSIRT) – a service for the fast and timely handling of reported security incidents, specifically in the context of the CRA. In addition to standard PSIRT tasks such as monitoring and handling vulnerabilities, a dedicated NewTec team also provides 24/7 readiness for reporting incidents to authorities within the required deadlines.
With NTTrainSolutions, safety and security specialist NewTec will also present its comprehensive portfolio of services and solutions for supporting the development of cyber-resilient rail technology – from initial system architecture through electronics and embedded software development to the integration, verification, and series support of security-critical applications. NTTrainSolutions thus enables standard-compliant solutions that meet all regulatory requirements and can be operated securely over the long term.
In addition, TRDP co-developer NewTec will provide information in Berlin on further services and tools from its NTTrainSolutions portfolio, including safety development of electronics and embedded software in line with current CENELEC standards, as well as the development of tailored solutions in the TCN (Train Communication Network) environment.
