  • As Lead Consultant for Functional Safety at NewTec, Achim Brunner is responsible for consulting and technical management of safety-related development projects—from requirements analysis to standards-compliant implementation, including compliance with IEC 61508, ISO 26262, and EN ISO 13849. His more than 20 years of experience span a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, mechanical engineering, automotive, and avionics. He is a TÜV SÜD-certified Functional Safety Engineer and a TÜV Rheinland-certified Cybersecurity Specialist. He earned his degree in electrical engineering (Dipl. Ing. (FH), with a focus on communications and information technology) from the University of Applied Sciences in Konstanz. In addition to his project work, he is responsible for NewTec’s platform solutions and shares his expertise in customer workshops and training sessions.

  • As Lead Consultant for Functional Safety at NewTec, Andreas Bufe is responsible for consulting and technical management of safety-related development projects—from requirements analysis to standards-compliant implementation, including compliance with IEC 61508, ISO 26262, and EN ISO 13849. His experience spans a range of industries, including manufacturing, mechanical engineering, medical technology, and avionics. He is a TÜV SÜD-certified Functional Safety Professional, a TÜV Rheinland-certified Cybersecurity Specialist, and an IREB Certified Professional for Requirements Engineering (CPRE). He earned his Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Information Technology, with a focus on sensor technology and embedded systems, from Mannheim University of Applied Sciences. In addition to his project work, he oversees internal development processes and shares his expertise in customer workshops and training sessions.

  • Daniel Frey leads the Embedded Applications team in Freiburg, which develops and tests complex applications based on embedded operating systems. As a certified software architect at the Advanced Level (iSAQB CPSA-A), he has a solid background in software architecture as well as many years of practical experience in the architecture, design, implementation, and testing of complex systems. His professional focus lies on software architecture itself, as well as on software system testing and its architectural structure. For him, UML is not an end in itself, but rather the central tool for transparently linking architecture, design, and implementation—which he views as an indispensable foundation for every project. For the past 10 years, he has been teaching both the UML Basics course and the SysML course, combining theory with a wide range of examples from his daily project work.

  • Dirk Marschall

  • Iris Bosse has many years of practical experience in requirements and test engineering across a variety of projects, particularly in the industrial and railway sectors. Her primary focus is on communication protocols and their safety layers (up to SIL3). Working within the V-model, she has been involved in all development phases—including both specification and verification—for safety-critical embedded systems. Her use of tools such as DOORS and Polarion for creating and managing requirements and tests, as well as her work with various frameworks for unit and integration tests in C/C++, has been thoroughly tested in numerous projects. Over the past 10 years, she has acquired in-depth expertise in the rail sector, particularly in Ethernet communication using the Train Real-Time Data Protocol (TRDP) and the associated safety layer SDTv2, through active participation in new releases of the TCNOpen TRDP stack in collaboration with Bombardier/Alstom (including IEC 61375 2-3, 61375 2-5), as well as through participation in EU-funded projects such as Safe4RAIL and Connecta under the umbrella of Shift2Rail. Her shared responsibility for the NTOnTrack products at NewTec has rounded out this knowledge. As a result, she is able to combine theoretical fundamentals with a wide range of concrete, real-world examples in her training sessions and clearly convey technical concepts.

  • Lorena Bergander is a certified FS Engineer (TÜV Rheinland, #20701/20 – HW/SW) and brings many years of practical experience in the field of functional safety and safety engineering, particularly in the development of safety-related systems in accordance with IEC 61508, ISO 13849, and ISO 26262. Through her involvement in various development projects, she understands the challenges of functional safety not only from the perspective of the standards but, above all, from the perspective of practical implementation. As a result, in her role as a training instructor, she can draw on cross-industry expertise, illustrating concepts with clear examples and concrete real-world experiences. This makes even complex safety topics tangible and directly applicable to day-to-day work. In addition to her project work, she is responsible for internal development processes and shares her expertise in customer-specific workshops and through project-related consulting.

  • Markus Müller leads the Wireless team at NewTec’s Freiburg location. He has been working in the development of embedded systems and wireless communication since 2012 and holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. As an iSAQB Certified Professional for Software Architecture at the Advanced Level, he combines wireless technology with structured architectural practices. Together with his team, he implements Bluetooth Low Energy applications in regulated industries such as medical technology and manufacturing, where functional safety and robust documentation are required in addition to the wireless link. He closely follows the development of the standard and writes about it, most recently in the article “Rethinking Bluetooth LE – what the 6.x generation really delivers”. Since 2019, he has been conducting training sessions on Bluetooth Low Energy, bringing questions from ongoing client projects directly into the classroom.

    Nicolas Rietsche

  • Oliver Gutpelet is an IREB Certified Professional for Requirements Engineering (CPRE-FL) and has many years of practical experience in requirements engineering and requirements management in technically challenging development projects. His focus is on the creation, structuring, and quality assurance of requirements, as well as the implementation and application of proven methods for formulating requirements in a way that is understandable, unambiguous, and testable. Through his collaboration with development, testing, quality management, and project management teams, he understands the real-world challenges posed by unclear or ambiguous requirements and teaches effective techniques for avoiding them using concrete project examples. In addition, he has more than five years of experience using and administering Polarion ALM, including the design of requirements management processes, workflows, role and permission models, and the implementation of best practices. In addition to his project work, he supports clients in optimizing their requirements engineering and shares his expertise through training sessions, workshops, and project-based consulting.

  • With her linguistic background and experience as a requirements engineer, Stephanie Newe is well-equipped to support participants in formulating requirements and to help them gain a clearer perspective on the approach to doing so. This is independent of, for example, a software, hardware, or mechanical engineering background—which participants often bring with them—and allows Stephanie Newe, as an experienced instructor, to bridge the gap toward a broader overall understanding of requirements within the product development cycle and a greater awareness of the importance of well-formulated requirements.
