NewTec GmbH, a specialist in safety-relevant electronic systems, is launching a 96Boards-compatible embedded development platform for secure networking in cooperation with Arrow. NTSecureGateway Shield96 makes it easy to connect devices or sensors securely to other systems and the cloud. The Secure Gateway community board is part of NewTec's comprehensive secure cloud solution package NTSecureCloudSolutions, with hardware and software components for secure IoT applications.
Networked components, especially in IoT and Industry 4.0 scenarios, need particular protection against cyber attacks. NewTec's Secure Gateway technology ensures that all systems involved, such as machines, plants, connected devices or sensors, communicate securely with each other and with the cloud via various interfaces. The evaluation and development platform NTSecureGateway Shield96 is the first of several Secure Gateway solutions from NewTec. It complements the platforms and components of NTSecureCloudSolutions, which enable companies to implement secure industrial IoT solutions with little effort.
A powerful, energy-efficient microprocessor (Microchip® ATSAMA5D27) with a Cortex-A5 processor, a clock rate of up to 500 MHz and 128 MB of flash memory enables real-time edge computing. The platform handles data compression, buffering and filtering and offers advanced security functions, including ARM TrustZone®, tamper detection, Secure Boot, secure storage for keys and certificates, hardware encryption (AES, SHA) and a true random number generator (TRNG). Connectivity is provided via Ethernet, USB and wirelessly via WLAN. For use in industrial environments, NewTec's Secure Gateway will soon also be available with a DIN rail housing, an extended supply voltage range of up to 32 V and further interfaces such as CAN or RS485.
NTSecureGateway Shield96 meets the specifications of the 96Boards IoT Edition Extended Version, allowing flexible use of existing 96Boards expansions (mezzanine cards). With NTSecureGateway Shield96, companies can turn their 96Boards-based innovations into market-ready, securely connected products quickly and cost-effectively. NewTec supports them with integration services and customisable extensions, for example for retrofitting additional wireless standards (LTE, NarrowBand IoT, LoRa), digital inputs and outputs, sensor interfaces or ModBus.
The 96Boards programme from Linaro, a specialist in the ARM processor architecture, comprises a series of open platform specifications for processor-independent hardware designs. The aim is to provide compatible, low-cost and compact ARM developer boards that support a wide range of applications, meet industrial requirements and are suitable for rapid prototyping. Thanks to standardised expansion buses, there is also a wide range of compatible expansion boards that work on every 96Boards product for the lifetime of the platform.
